SOCHA Light
Scenography / Theater Arsenaal
Directed by Junior Mthombeni & Alix Konadu
In SOCHA Light, we seek illumination in a time characterised by exhaustion, fragmentation and uncertainty. As the year draws to a close, the performance becomes a gathering on the brink — a collective attempt to keep our footing.
The DJ becomes an anchor. A pulse. A force that keeps bodies upright and connected. Here, music is not decoration; it is structure. It holds us together when words cannot.
Voices emerge — singing, whispering, breaking and biting. They are fragile and fierce at once. They move between lament and celebration, prayer and protest. Sound becomes a form of resistance.
Set in an underground setting, the piece evokes the intimacy of a clandestine gathering, where community is formed in the dark and rhythm replaces despair with momentum. The stage is both a temporary refuge and a threshold.
SOCHA Light is not naive optimism. It does not deny the abyss. It stands on the edge of the abyss and chooses to sing.
Hope repeated like a mantra.
Hope as a way of life.
Hope until the light returns.
